(continued from page 1)

I am scheduled to meet with the artist Wednesday to finalize that too. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Monday, 28 Oct 1996 At Priority One studios in Del Mar: We re-recorded everything at 44.1 kHz. It was a dumb idea to record everything digitally at 48 kHz and then require a sample rate conversion on the entire album. After thinking a little bit, we decided to skip the tape step. So the recording is directly from the synth modules -> Yamaha 02R recording console -> Tascam DA-30 DAT recorder.

After experimenting with the 02R's compression and reverb algorithms, we decided to skip the sidechain and keep EVERYTHING in the digital domain. We agree that the 02R's internal effects sound pretty darn good. Noise should theoretically be zero since, after the A/D conversion at the input of the 02R; there are no other analog inputs or conversions. In fact, the next time the music will be in the analog domain will be when you play it on your CD player.

It sounds pretty good, but of course listening back to it one always hears things one wishes one could correct...little matters of level adjustment, reverb send levels, etc.

The next step is to get it mastered and pressed. I will meet with the manufacturer's rep next week and we'll nail down the technical and financial aspects.

Monday, 30 Dec 1996 Took delivery of the CDs, tapes and printing about 2 weeks ago. Gave away some for Xmas and trades. Everything came out really good, and there appear to be only two tiny errors in the whole thing: (1) The "disclaimer" on the CD itself has a close quote with no open quote. Tiny but annoying error. (2) The poster lists the address of RJR Digital as "Benita, CA" when it should be "Bonita". GRR! I don't know where that crept in but it's the kind of thing that's not surprising when you make last minute changes.
On the good side, the sonic quality of both the tapes and CDs is great...
