OK--this section will contain all kinds of technical stuff about what I use to create music.

Apparently there are composers and producers out there who either keep their favorite techniques and tools secret. Maybe I would too if this were my living. Sometimes in interviews they even make up stuff or tell complete lies. So reader beware when your favorite musician claims he's spilling his all in an interview.

In this connection, one of my favorite websites in that context is that of Cassiel who is a Scottish music and dance producer. He is never afraid of telling HOW which I don't think takes away from the mystique of WHAT and WHY.

The interesting pages under this section are the ones for software in general (where I talk about Ableton Live a bit) and the one about SSEYO Koan.

I've been getting back into studying music generation software again. I want to see if I can make stuff that's musically enjoyable to me without being too academic or electronic.
The Roland SC-88 which was my main sound generating tool for a long time. Even though I was able to get this at an employee discount, I still paid nearly US$700 for this which was not cheap! I've since sold it and replaced it with a Roland SC-880... but since the early 2000s my MIDI stuff pretty much languishes since there is so much you can do purely "in the box" (in software) now...

To that end I've started a blog on Wordpress to talk about my adventures in this realm, particularly with ChucK and Csound. There are a million other tools (pd, Max/MSP, Reaktor, etc.) out there, commercial and open source, but for this pass I'm going to focus more on the free ones.

Just a side note...if you're interested in starting your own blog--about anything--do check out Wordpress; it's simple, free and very user friendly.
